Cyclones Roll In Tournament Opener

The UW-Fox men’s basketball team jumped out to a 46-21 halftime lead on their way to an 87-50 win over visiting UW-Fond du Lac.  It was a first round game in the 2014 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference (WCC) tournament.   

Trevor Krizenesky and Riley Van Asten had late first half baskets to give the Cyclones momentum going into the half.  Krizenesky scored on a runner down the left baseline, and Van Asten converted a steal into a lay-up as the half ended.  

Krizenesky and Cameron Schaefer paced UW-Fox in the opening half.  Both were in double figures and combined to go 6/10 from three-point range.  Matt Lehner, Wesley Krauss, and Marcus Jensen were also part of a 14-4 run that helped the Cyclones to a 38-18 lead with 3:05 remaining in the half.  UW-Fox held the Falcons to 29% (8/27) field goal shooting in the opening half, just 2/12 (17%) on three-point field goals.

In the second half UW-Fox was able to push the lead and maintain it over 30 points throughout.  13 Cyclones scored led by Krizenesky and Schaefer who had 20 and 19 points respectively as well as 5 assists each.  Lehner rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points.  Jensen pulled down 8 rebounds, 5 offensive, to lead UW-Fox, while Van Asten and Chase Hawley each had 3 steals.

The win boosts the Cyclones overall record to 21-4.  UW-Fox will host a WCC tournament quarterfinal game on Wednesday February 19th at 7pm.  Their opponent will be UW-Waukesha or UW-Sheboygan.
