Cyclones Defeat UW-Baraboo

Jon Schlaver and Matt Lehner led five Cyclones in double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively.  Chase Hawley finished with 11 points, while Sam Schreiber and Cameron Schaefer also chipped in with 10 points each.  Trevor Krizenesky recorded 8 assists with zero turnovers, and scored 7 points to help the UW-Fox offense. 

The Cyclones jumped out to a 46-16 halftime lead and maintained that margin throughout the second half.  UW-Fox outrebounded the Fighting Saints 53-28.  Nate TeGrootenhuis, Marcus Jensen, Schaefer, and Schreiber each grabbed 7 rebounds for the Cyclones. 

UW-Fox also held UW-Baraboo to 33% shooting for the game while shooting 83% from the free-throw line.  With the win the Cyclones move to 11-3 overall.  Their next game will be on Wednesday January 8th when they travel to UW-Barron for a 6pm tip-off.

UW-Fox Outlasts UW-Barron

The Cyclones won their first game in the 2013 UW-Fox JUCO Classic.  Matt Lehner and Cameron Schaefer each scored 11 first half points to help the Cyclones to a 35-32 lead.  

Cyclones made 14/15 free-throws for the game and grabbed 15 offensive rebounds.  They held the Chargers to only 5 offensive rebounds and outrebounded UW-Barron 42 to 24.

Schaefer led UW-Fox with 17 points and Trevor Krizenesky contributed to the Cyclone cause with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Lehner finished with 14 points, while Jon Schlaver scored 9 points and had 8 rebounds.

UW-Barron was led by Murdock Smith’s 27 points and 5 rebounds.  Drew Buergi also had 12 points for the Chargers.

The Cyclones are now 10-3 overall.  They will host UW-Baraboo in their second game of the UW-Fox JUCO Classic tomorrow at 2pm.

Cyclones Down Foxes

The Cyclones led 31-26 at half and began to pull away midway through the second half.  Jon Schlaver scored 7 early second half points and a Riley Van Asten three-point field goal gave UW-Fox a 64-50 lead with 9:26 to play.  

The Cyclones shot almost 56% in the second half and forced the Foxes into 26 turnovers for the game.  Trevor Krizenesky led UW-Fox with 17 points and 10 assists.  Cameron Schaefer was also in double figures with 14.  Schlaver finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds, and Chase Hawley chipped in with 8 points.

Darius Banks led all scorers with 25 points and he grabbed 9 rebounds for FVTC.  UW-Fox heads into Christmas with a 9-3 overall record.  They will return to action on December 30th and 31st when they host UW-Barron and UW-Baraboo in the 2013 UW-Fox JUCO Classic.

Cyclones Fall To Blue Devils

For the first time since 2008-2009 the Cyclones lost a WCC-East home game on Monday night.  The Cyclones were defeated by UW-Manitowoc 88-93.  With the win the Blue Devils (10-0, 6-0) stay undefeated in the WCC-East and overall, while the Cyclones fall to 8-3 overall, 5-1 in the WCC-East.  

The Cyclones allowed the Blue Devils to shoot over 57% for the game, and only made 14 of their 29 free-throws, including 3 missed front ends of bonus free-throws.  It was an uncharacteristic defensive performance for UW-Fox who had four players score in double figures led by Sam Schreiber and Chase Hawley.  The two had 21 and 20 points respectively.  Jon Schlaver also had 14 points and Trevor Krizenesky 13 for UW-Fox.  

UW-Manitowoc was led by Xavier Fletcher who scored 20 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.  Olentda Bryant almost had a triple double for the Blue Devils with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists.

The Cyclones return to action on Wednesday night.  They host Fox Valley Technical College in a non-conference game.  Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.

Big Second Half Lifts UW-Fox

The UW-Fox men’s basketball team defeated UW-Rock 91-72 to pick up the non-conference home victory.  The Cyclones quickly erased a 42-44 halftime deficit with a 12-4 run to start the second half.  Cameron Schaefer started the rally with 2 free-throws and Sam Schreiber capped it off by knocking down one of his 2 three-point field goals.  

Jon Schlaver scored 12 first half points to pace the Cyclones early.  He got help from reserve Nathan TeGrootenhuis who knocked down both of his shots for 5 points, and grabbed 4 first half rebounds.  The Cyclones nemesis was rebounding in the opening half.  UW-Rock converted 5 offensive rebounds into 10 points.

First year player Chase Hawley had a career high 12 points off the bench for UW-Fox.  His steals and deflections on defense were converted into transition lay-ups, which helped push the Cyclone lead into double digits.  Joe Perez also scored 7 second half points as he connected on all three of his field goal attempts.

For the game Schlaver led UW-Fox with 16 points and 5 rebounds.  Schaefer and Schreiber also finished with 12 points apiece.  Schaefer also recorded 3 assists and 4 steals. 

UW-Fox shot 62% in the win and converted 20/29 free-throw attempts.  They also forced the Rattlers into 25 turnovers for the game.

The Cyclones move to 8-2 (5-0) on the season.  They return to action on Monday night when they host UW-Manitowoc at 7:30pm.  The Blue Devils are also 4-0 in the WCC-East.

UW-Fox Dominates Falcons

The UW-Fox men were dominant defensively in recording a 75-22 lop-sided road victory over UW-Fond du Lac on Wednesday night.  The Cyclones forced 28 Falcon turnovers and held them to just 14% field goal shooting for the game.  The margin of victory was the largest for UW-Fox since head coach Lee Rabas took over the Cyclone program in 2009-2010.

The Cyclones had 14 players score in the win.  Sam Schreiber led UW-Fox with 11 points and 7 rebounds, while Jon Schlaver scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.  UW-Fox recorded a season high 56 total rebounds.

The win moves UW-Fox to 7-2 overall, 5-0 in the WCC-East.  They will host UW-Rock in a non-conference match-up on Saturday December 7th.  Tip-off is set for 3pm.

Cyclones Beat Marauders

The Cyclones defeated UW-Marshfield 79-69 at home in a non-conference tilt on Monday evening.  With the win UW-Fox gets back on the winning track and moves their record to 6-2 overall.

Cameron Schaefer scored 15 second half points, 17 overall, to lead UW-Fox.  Trevor Krizenesky chipped in with 14 points and Jon Schlaver 10.  Chase Hawley came off the bench to hit three triples and finish with 9 points.  Krizenesky also led the Cyclones with 7 rebounds.

UW-Fox will travel to UW-Fond du Lac on Wednesday for a WCC-East game with the Falcons.  Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
