Dachelet Powers UW-Fox past UW-Richland

The UW-Fox Valley men's basketball team ran their season record to 7-0 on Saturday with a 70-60 win over UW-Richland.  Joe Dachelet (Menasha) filled in for the injured Cole Meyer (Bayport) in the Cyclone starting line-up and netted 20 points in his first collegiate start.  He went 8-8 from the free-throw line and also pulled down 6 rebounds to help the Cyclone cause.

Second year player Karl Sachs (Seymour) scored 20 of his game high 23 points in the first half by hitting 6 three-point field goals.  His torrid shooting got UW-Fox out to a 40-27 half time lead.

However, the Roadrunners closed the gap to 42-40 on a post up basket by Antonio Thomas with 15:11 left in the game.  Jake Coenen (Kimberly), who turned in another defensive gem, answered with a three-point field goal on the next possession to push the lead back to 45-40.  Isiah Mader's (Appleton East) three pointer with just under 8 minutes to go stretched the lead back to 60-47, and the Roadrunners would never get closer than 7 points the rest of the way.

UW-Fox was never able to put away the pesky Roadrunners who got 15 points from Derek Thomas and 10 from Bryan Trainor.  UW-Richland also pulled down 20 second half offensive rebounds to keep themselves in the game.

Phil Landua (Kaukauna) continued to be a valuable contributor off the bench for the Cyclones.  He scored 8 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and handed out 4 assists on the day.  Chris Searl (Appleton West) also contributed 9 rebounds and 6 assists for UW-Fox Valley.

With little time to rest, the UW-Fox men are back at it again on Monday night as they travel to Manitowoc for a WCC East showdown with the Blue Devils.  The tip-off at UW-Manitowoc is slated for 7:00pm.

UW-Fox Wins Opener

UW-Fox Valley opened the 2009-10 season with a hard fought 63-62 win over UW-Marshfield in the opening round of the UW-Fond du Lac tournament.  The Cyclones survived a missed 3-point shot by UW-Marshfield at the buzzer to walk away with their first victory.

UW-Fox Valley got off to great start in the first half jumping out to an early 18-8 lead.  UW-Marshfield settled in on offense and relied on the offensive rebounding and play of their big man, David Steinbach (Granton) to keep the game close.  A put back at the end of the half made it 36-31 in favor of UW-Fox.

The Maurauders got off to a quick start in the second half and UW-Fox struggled to settle in on offense.  The game was back and forth for most of the 2nd half.  Karl Sachs came up huge late in the game. He hit a 3 to tie the game and then scored 5 straight points in the last 3:00 minutes to give UW-Fox the lead.

Cole Meyer (Bayport) was solid inside for the Cyclones finishing in double figures.  Chris Searl (Appleton West) had a solid floor game finishing with 6 assists and had an important 3-point play midway through the 2nd half.    Jake Coenen (Kimberly) was also in double figures for UW-Fox and Isiah Mader hit three triples to help the cause.  Joe Dachelet (Menasha), Phil Landua (Kaukauna), Bill Wildenburg (Manawa), and Ryan Vandehey (Kimberly) were all big contributors off the bench in the victory.

UW-Fox resumes play tomorrow in the championship game of the UW-Fond du Lac tournament.  Game time is slated for 3:15pm at UW-Fond du Lac.  They will face the winner of the UW-Baraboo Vs. UW-Fond du Lac game played later tonight.
